Eyes Like Knives

Franz & Shape - Eyes Like Knives Feat. Kill Memory Crash (D.I.M. Remix)

I can't say I've heard a lot of electronic music coming out of Italy lately apart from Duoteque, Dusty Kid and Crookers but this certainly isn't the first time I've come across Franz & Shape. Francesco Spazzoli and Chris Shape put out Eyes Like Knives / Forgotten Days on German label Relish Recordings (who've also released material from Riot in Belgium, Headman, Don Cash and more) back in December of 2007. Their most recent work is the full-length record, Acceleration also on Relish which is chock-full of electro bombs and collaborative efforts with an array of other artists. "Countach (Original Mix)" in particular comes highly recommended.

D.I.M. appears to be working over time with remixes popping up on just about every recent single out there. Sure, it's a bit Ed Banger-esque from 2:18 on. As much as my interest in that style has a tendency to wane to the point where I want to go the way of Van Gogh and slice an ear off, it's hard to not be automatically drawn to it. With the ominous, monotone vocals it's reminiscent of the type of electroclash that had everyone going bananas around the time Felix da Housecat's "Showerscene" took over the dancefloor but, admittedly, I could do without them on this remix -- I'm aching for a dub version.

Check out a recent interview with D.I.M. over at the Phase02 blog.
