Fancy Footwork

Last night was the debut of Blogger's Delight, a new Monday night weekly at the Knitting Factory in lower Manhattan that offers NYC blogs a chance to showcase new bands and DJs. David Bruno from Slap You in Public, the People Don't Dance No More party, guest blogger for Brooklyn Vegan's "This Week in Dance" segment and my favorite neighbor curated the event which featured a set by Adam Kesher, their U.S. debut, and DJs Snack & C'mish (Turntable Lab). Adam Kesher is a six piece "artpop" band from France, named after the director character in David Lynch's film, Mulholland Drive. Their sound is an amalgamation of hard synths, angular guitar riffs, heavy bass and samples. Here's a track from their latest EP, just released on August 29th, An Allegory of Chastity:

Adam Kesher - Feel You In My Arm

I'll cut to the chase. Having only heard Adam Kesher's cover of Para One's "Dun-dundun", I thought it'd be a fun gig to drop by and wasn't expecting much as I admittedly don't frequent venues to see bands. Instead I was awed, absolutely starstruck, completely floored, stupified even! The songs, the actual performance and showmanship which included some heavy fancy footwork and instrument rotations... it just all coalesced into a supercharged set that left the room, which wasn't even packed to capacity, dense with energy. Notable attendees from the Disque Primeur roster: A-Trak and Dave 1 of Chromeo.

For video clips (or sound bites rather), head over to Have You Seen This?. If you're just into the eye candy, Mim Photo should satisfy. And if you're disappointed you missed out on the action, you can catch a special DJ set from the band Wednesday night at Happy Ending, the official Calvin Harris afterparty. Stay tuned for an official interview!
